I'm back and... everything hurts

So I'm back from Rammstein... every centimeter of my body aches.. people were crazy and there were also no screens so everybody wanted to see what was going on and pushed and keept pushing.

The gig was really amazing, a lot of stuff, a lot of effects, fire, explosions, I wish I could have seen everything more in detail.. specially Mein Teil but I was in a sea of people and it was impossible, I always go to the same spot in gigs.. to the left side kinda near the stage but not close to the barrier, it's always "calmer" in that spot, this time I changed and went to the right and again, I think it's because of the fact that there were no screens that people were all trying to push to get a good peek at what was going on on stage.First time that this has happened to me :/
I can't complain... but.. truth is, I've had better gigs than this one, "better" like.. I enjoyed more or was more "comfortable" and where people were less "crazy".

After a few shots with my camera... and getting blur and hands and cameras instead of R+ on my pictures.. I got frustrated and didn't try to take pics anymore. I also stopped trying to jump and try to see the stage... so I just tried to survive and enjoy the music, the combo Links 2, 3, 4, Du Hast and Pussy nearly "killed us" like one guy shout but it was fun.

I still get full of adrenaline when I listen to Rammlied, it was the opening song so everybody went crazy and pushed, funny thing I felt like "damn I want to get out of here/oh yeah!!*singing and raising my fist to "RAMM - STEIN!"".
I keep remembering when Till said "Tiburon, Tiburon" (shark) at the start of Haifisch (shark), it was funny, I was like "huh?", I think it's great they have songs in more than one language, I feel strongly attracted to that.

I was hoping they would play Reise, Reise, Rammstein, Amerika, Engel, Sehnsucht or Spiel mit mir but oh well, it was all about the new album, which is not bad at all.

A garment in less than 24 hours

I have this sleeveless top I really like because of the fit and length... so I copied it into a sleeve one... It was good because I got to remember how to make a sleeve from the patternmaking course.
It wasn't hard, a lot of pieces to sew but my pair of scissors didn't help from the begining... I need a new one, or even better.. a rotary cutter.. I always wanted one but they are kind of expensive. I think clean cuts make the sewing part a lot easier.

A blurry pic of the result... the neckline is not as neat as I'd wanted it to be but for a less than 24 hours garment is more than ok.

Today is the big day.. I'm leaving to Buenos Aires to Rammstein's gig tomorrow night. I'm going "alone" to a gig for the second time. First was Opeth and now Rammstein, I'm kinda.. anxious instead of nervous really. I'm going in a kind of tour the bar I go arranges, so there are 5 buses full of people going to the same gig... that doesn't make me feel so alone after all.

Pan Casero

Pan Casero

Receta

I've been looking forward to make (bake?) pan casero for a long time, it reminds me of my hometown, it was very easy, I've read some recipes and found one that is even easy to remember.
Pan Casero

Sneak peak of the placemats I made days ago.. it was harder than I thought, I guess I wasn't looking for something easy. I'm happy with the results although they are not as neat as I'd like them to be... but oh well... we are in family, nobody is going to notice... but pictures must be good, so I'm going to take my time with that.

Fashion Inspiration: Cristina Scabbia

I'm not a fan of Lacuna... I like what they do but I'm not crazy about it.
But I really like Cristina, her personality is great and her taste in fashion is pretty much like mine... I would wear everything she wears, she is not a "pompous (funny word) dress and too much make up" kind of female metal singer, and that's what I like about her... besides the fact that she is Italian and that her skin/eyes/hair are like mine :p

Leather, metal, lace, jeans, black, white, blue, red... love it.
I love this coat! me wants it so bad :/
The buttons on the sleeves, I really like that detail, I actually have a jacket made with buttons like those.
I guess her designer and me are soulmates.

I was inspired by this pic to make a dress like this one, I love the effect of the sheer black with a plain fabric... I actually have the fabric to make it, but I've not decided what twist I'm going to give to it, it looks easy though. So far I have the boots and the corset :p

Some random words about Halloween

We don't really celebrate All hallow's eve in Argentina, I say "don't really" because there are some costume parties and some clubs and bars have halloween theme nights and there are some decorations in some shops too. But we defintely don't  go trick or treating.

I had to read about this topic for Language I, I learned a lot about the history, in fact, i didn't know it was pagan/catholic and Irish. But I learned more about the modern halloween from tv/movies, and lots more in crafts blogs.
I think Hallowe'en is interesting, fun and the only occasion where spooky things like spiders, spider webs, bats, and things that are not supposed to be "fun" like tombstones, skeletons, ghosts, witches, zombies, are allowed to be laughed at and played with. I mean, the only month when you can have spider webs in your furniture and tombstones in your garden is October. I think that makes it more... playful?

Actually I have real bats all year... squeaking and flying on my window, it'd be a nice prop if we celebrated halloween :p

Anyways I've never been to a halloween party, for some reason I always have my mid term tests in these weeks :/... such a pitty.
What I want to get at is... halloween would be the perfect ocassion to make and wear a Kitana costume without looking nerdy gamer. These pics are from cosplays... I'm not that videogame lover to dress up in conventions, I mean, I can't imagine myself going to take the bus wearing a night elf costume.

This is my favorite one... the color and fabric are perfect.
And this one completes it:

Don't give up on your dreams

"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not: unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education alone will not: the world is full of educated derelicts
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."
                                                  - President Calvin Coolidge

I wrote this on a note on facebook because some of my friends and I, myself, are going through a hard time getting what we want (don't we all?), I thought I'd share it here:

Quick translation:
Well I read this on an article about Ray Kroc, I had to read about him because he was in the topic of success, one of many I had to study for a language oral exam. He was the man who make Mac Donald's the place it is today. I was amazed, to be honest, I didn't thought a company so.... materialistic or successful would have a rough start. This guy kept on fighting for what he wanted, for what he dreamed for (to become rich, I don't think money is that good but anyways) He kept on fighting for that dream while he was old, ill, poor and had many failures on his life.

What I want to say is: there will always be people that tell you that what you want is too hard for you, or there might be someone that tells you to give up and try something "more at your level" because what you are trying is out of your league. Or the one that says: "I know this person, sister of neighbour of my cousin's, that tried and didn't make it" If you really want something, think that you already got it and keep going on fighting for it. Don't think about the time it's going to take, or the time you are going to "waste", don't think about the doors that are going to be shut in your face, don't think about the bad marks you may get, those situations are going to happen because, you like it or not, it's part of the "struggle" and nothing of that is going to matter anymore when you get what you have dreamed for.

Mother's day, away from home, again

Mother's day project
Finished the mother's day project on time, it's in my mom's right now, just got off the phone with her, she really likes the birds, her words were: cute, chubby, real and ... yummy (because of the gummies). When I go home this Christmas, I'm definetely taking a pic of this in her living room, I chose this colors because they match perfectly with her decoration.
She is a ric rac fan too, I don't know why I like this ric racs so much, maybe because of vintage feeling, too bad they don't make them anymore :/.
Anyways, the project was a success!
I don't know if this is part 2 or what but I gotta say I wanted to make something different for the nest, tried making circles and strips to give the "nest cloth" a nice convex shape but obviously, it didn't work so I quickly chose the easiest way, 2 fabric circles with the ric rac inside, turn right sides out, then a nice lace ribbon and another ric rac ribbon and done. Finished with hot glue, moss and some dry flowers.
Thanks Katie from Duofiberworks for sharing the little birds pattern! While making them (it was my first time with dp needles so if I could, I think anybody can!) anyways, while making them I got this incredible creativity rush that I hadn't had in a long time, so thanks :>.
Now... I have to go back to study, I have like 3 exams this week which is why I'm not with my family, it's not that bad though, I enjoy my alone time... even if I have to study all this: (which I'm falling behind with, woops)

Stormy Spring and what a big difference a beak makes - Birds project part 1

It's been like that since Spring started here last 21st :D, I couldn't take a pic when it hailed (is it that the correct form of the verb?) though but I like these days... I honestly thought it was going to be all hot and humid and people kissing everywhere... but it's not that bad, thanks to these rainy days, cheesy people are inside their houses and I don't have to see them! Other than that, I've been with an annoying cold, changing weather is a killer.

I've made a big improve on the mother's day project, I knitted these 2 birdies in a few hours  the other day, and then I added details. For a moment I was a little... uhm disappointed about how the yellow birdie turned out, well both of them don't look like the original, their heads are not that round, my guess is because of: the yarn or the needles or the filling and/or my hands since it's my first time with double pointed needles.
But back to the yellow one... it looked so weird and while I was staring at it with a blank face, my brother came and said: "hey, what are you making?"; "a bird", I answered; "...."; "exactly, it doesn't look like a bird!", I said, and then he pointed out the obvious: "uhm maybe with a beak and eyes...".

Going from weirdo to bird with just a beak.
[Interesting language mistake: I actually wrote peak a few times because my head is translating from Spanish, peak means pico in Spanish and pico means, both peak and beak, I wonder what the relation is, if there is any, I guess it's like book and cook, no relation]

For the beaks I used these wooden sticks people use to eat chinese food (I'm not fond of oriental food but my brother and his gf truly are, there were tons of this sticks in a kitchen drawer!). To make the orange bird beak I carved one taking off the angles and then I used water with a bit of brown paint to tint the other beak, which I carved too and then sanded to make it smoother. For the eyes I used little black beads.

To make the feet I used aluminium wire because I have no chance of going outside and look for the kind of branches the original birds feet are made of and also I wanted something I could easily bend because of what's coming next. So I used round pliers and cut 3 pieces and then twisted them, I also cut a 4th one with a smaller curl (uh how do you call that "curl" made with a round plier?) to make the foot look more real, and also because I wanted to give the bird more balance. Lastly I made a final loop/curl so when I apply the white glue it'd stay in that hole and stick better to the filling.
In some kind of light bulb moment, I had the idea of making a stand for the birds, and then the ideas began to flash. So I went to this flower shop I have like a block away,  and I bought a piece (more like a slice) of log, a little basket that it's perfect to make a nest and moss to cover the glue later on.
I glued with hot glue a piece of black felt to the base of the log and I had my brother drilled 2 "holes" so then I could stick there 2 sticks and then glue on them 2 pieces more, all made of awesome chinese food sticks tinted with the watery brown paint, I glued those 2 pieces so that there would be a gap, so the 4th leg of the foot could get in there and the bird could stand on its own.
On the pic there is another stick glued to the log, I'm not sure if I'm keeping that, it's still beta :p
Also there's the fabric I'm going to use to make a cloth for the nest, which it's going to be used to hold sweets or jewelry whatever my mom wants to use it for.
I still need to sew the yellow birdie's eyes. For some reason the orange one looks "birdier" than the yellow but maybe it's just me.

I wish I had a grandma

Today I bought double point needles because I saw these cute birds online, I instantly felt I should make these for my mom, Mother's day is coming in October so I think she would love them.
They look sooo complicated but I like challenges... and for long I wanted to try to knit with dp needles.
When I saw the abbreviations on the pdf I was like o.O... KFB, M1.. what's that?! so with the help of my good friend youtube I looked those oddities up and also, of course, how to cast on with this bunch of needles.
Anyways the reason for this post name is because I found this video who helped me a lot, of course I watched a billion times till I get it, a few times I felt frustrated and wanted to quit but for some reason I had to keep trying.
The thing is, the lady from the video... her hands and the way she explains, made me feel nostalgic.
I don't have grandparents, my grandfathers died before I was born and grandmothers passed away when I was 5 or 6. All people who knew them, always tell me how I look alike to my dad's mom (I happen to saw a picture of her, and it's totally true although a bit scary lol) and also, when one of my parents see me crocheting, or knitting or sewing, they tilt their heads and say "you are so like your grandma". Both my grandmas were craft lovers, they knew all sort of things related to that, in those ages you had to also they taught you that in school. My mom's mom used to crochet, knit, sew and embroider, I saw beautiful pieces that my mom had stored. My dad's mom also painted and drew, maybe I will take pics of their stuff and make a post someday.

Somedays I feel really sad because I wish they were here with me, teaching me how to do stuff, how to get better at it... or tell me how bad I am :p.
I'm the only one in my family who actually does (or tries) to do the stuff they did, so I feel lonely. When someone talks about this topic, my eyes get teary and then my mom says: "grandparents are a big important part of a child's life"... "ok, that doesn't help", I say and then she makes me remember what year is and the fact that if my grandmas were alive, they would be more than 100 years old... and yes, they would probably be too sore and ill but oh well.
This make me realize that I have to appreciate life and what I have now but sometimes I see how people are mean to elderly people or even their own family and it makes me feel so mad at them... there are people out there who wish to have what you have.

Multitasking day(s)

uhm where to start....
Over a week ago I saw focaccia recipes everywhere (I love italian food), it didn't seem too complicated so I wanted to give it a try, since my brother's birthday was coming, it was the perfect opportunity. So I made it happen, wrote down 2 recipes that looked the best and made my own with bits of them and it worked out really well, I wanted to make buns with the dough leftovers but my brother was like... "why don't we make a pizza out of it?"

This is what is left for tomorrow (and the day after tomorrow and who knows) (lots of food -.- but you don't turn 29 everyday):
Focaccia rellena y focaccia a la pizza
Today I've also been watching videos at lockerz, they give you more points for watching videos today and since the redemption is coming soon and I have enough points to TRY to trade for 25 bucks on my paypal account (I'm looking forward to buy a rotary cutter on etsy), I made the most of it and watched threadbanger's videos, interesting things there.
There were also idiotic videos like some girls talking emptyheadedgirly stuff, I can't believe such people can be so airheaded, it's so ridiculous that it looks fake... come on, who cares if your bf wears designer underwear that cost more than a car! or if your miniature dog's farts smell like flowers! or if a "newsupahottop" iphone gadget gives you massages! come on!... so with just reading the video tittles ("Pink is in, Julia is out" or "Sex with ex?" or "Strippers"... please, give me a break here >.>) I knew it wasn't good, so I muted them and listened to some good old Beck songs, nice memories there... I used to lol at this video when it was first released, I was like 11 or 12 and the image of the fridge humping the cooker was to die for, also the songs sounds so... happy, like No rain by Blind Melon with the little bee that kinda looks like the girl from Little Miss Sunshine.

DANCE LITTLE BEE!! ^^

These days, and today, I've been crocheting a little, I still have this endless "square net sweater"
but I know I'm going to complete it... this time.
Seriously... I do. Oh and there is also a peek at the crochet cushion cover I made for the white cushions I also made :p, I just need to make the other one.... so lazy

Square Net progress
Also while I was waiting for the dough to rise I tried to knit with these double point needles I bought today... I almost bought them on etsy because no craft store had them or the size I needed, funny thing is that I didn't even know their name in Spanish (I think I heard it on a craft show here but I first knew about them in English) so I was like translating it and I found out the name "agujas para medias" or... sock needles... it seems nobody knit them anymore but I saw oooh so pretty sock patterns on ravelry!

First time first with DPs!
The result of me getting started in ... this technique, more here.
Well, it is a nice "thumb cosy"
I'm excited with this.... it feels like those moments when your mind is all happy and racing because you accomplished something that seemed too hard,
eg:
- "I'm riding a bicycle on my own!"
- "I'm knitting!"
- "I'm driving!"
- "I finished school!"
- "I won!" (a dressing contest in second life, funny thing it was "best in skirts" and my avatar was wearing a simple one and the rest of the girls were all dressing like ho's... and people voted for me and I won :p)
- "Opeth is coming!!!" (probably one of the happiest moments in my life, too bad at that time I didn't have someone to share the excitement with)
- "I understand!" (when I read or listen to stuff in other languages that I don't know much about)
- Etc...
And now...
- "I'm knitting with double needles!"
First time first with DPs!

212 Randomness and yesterday's sweetness

The other day I was touching up one of my posts (I can't help it) and saw this:

I don't really trust these things, some of them "catch" the IPs, others if you saw a picture on google images and so on, I think I'm going to get rid of these someday... but I really like the moon and the flags, I wonder how you called a person who likes countries and languages? Anyways...
Nice... 212 Polish views (I bet most of them are you mój przyjaciółka :p)... and tomorrow 1st... I'm going to be 22... yeah, random!!.

And about the sweetness... I baked tortas negras yesterday, I really enjoyed kneading, I used to do it a lot when I was younger, not for eating though, just to make a mess in the kitchen... sorry mom.

Corseted vest!

Corseted vest

Wooho I finished this the other day, I'm so happy with the results... although it has lots of flaws but it was going to happen since it's my first try.

Mosaic Corseted Vest

Some things I need to keep leveling up:
· Cutting the fabric, I try to be neat but it seems that all my fabric scissors are useless, I've been thinking about buying a rotary cutter, I'd so LOVE to have one.
· Sewing stupid satin bias tape, yes... we met again, I had to use this tape to finish the armholes... since they are obviously round and the fabric wrinkled when I first try to finish them, my teacher told me the satin bias tape would stretch and finish it neatly.

Points to bare in mind for next time:
· The armholes were too wide on the front so I need to modify the pattern.
· The vest was also too big on the sides.
· Use thiner interfacing, which I kind saw it coming but I couldn't find other.
· Change the "homemade ribbon metal ring thingy" for pieces of fabric with eyelets.
· Go back to the basics! yeah, it's incredible, when I was about to give up finishing the armholes we had a black out and I was like, well I'll finish the "gapwhereIturneditrightsideout" and then I just went and finish the ends of the satin bias tape by hand, I wish I knew it before I sew the armholes with the sewing machine, I'd have done it entirely by hand but the thing with this satin bias tape, is that it is a pain to unpick so I left it that way.

About my inspiration, I totally love Sn@tch (virtual shop in a game I (used to) play called Second Life) and Lip Service, the first one I found it by chance and I was very hooked from the first time, it was like someone has made real all the ideas I have in mind or things I would totally like. And about the second one, I don't really remember how I end up knowing about it but it happens more or less the same, I really like some of their stuff, too bad I can't buy them though (It's going to be one of the first places I'm going to visit when I go to the states)
It's kind of funny but they both have the same looks sometimes, I'm not sure if the designers are just one but anyways... they truly inspire me.
